Two complementary memory systems, both injected into every system prompt for the current place — you write one, the agent writes the other. The Memory settings page, showing the Project Memory editor and a saved Auto Memory note

Project Memory

Persistent instructions for this place: coding standards, naming conventions, architecture notes, anything you’d otherwise repeat at the start of every chat. This is Tomdacat Code’s equivalent of a CLAUDE.md — you write it once in Settings → Memory, and it’s sent to the agent on every turn, every session, for as long as you’re working in this place. The box’s own placeholder text shows the shape it expects:
Keep it short and concrete. “Use 2-space indentation” works better than “format code nicely” — the agent follows specific, verifiable instructions far more reliably than vague ones.

Auto Memory

Notes the agent writes for itself, via a remember tool it calls on its own initiative — a build quirk it discovered, a correction you gave it, a preference you stated once. You never have to ask it to remember something; it decides what’s worth keeping for next time.
Auto Memory is capped at roughly 25KB. Once full, the oldest notes are trimmed first so the newest learnings always survive.
Both are visible and editable from Settings → Memory: Project Memory in a text box you control directly, Auto Memory as a read-only log with a Clear auto memory button if you want the agent to start learning fresh.
Clear auto memory needs a second click to actually clear anything — the button relabels to a confirmation (“Click again to confirm”) first, then to “Cleared” once it runs. The same double-click pattern guards the Danger Zone’s clear-chat-history button in Settings.

What the agent sees

Both are appended to the system prompt for every turn, right after the active goal and skills list:
Project Memory and Auto Memory are both stored locally per place (same machine and Studio install) via plugin settings — like chat history, they’re never written into the place file itself, so they don’t get published with the game.
